This term we completed 3 winter adventure cycles. We experimented with taking challenges through healthy risks like performing the haka Whai Ake Te Matauranga (Pursue Knowledge) and 2nd graders continued practicing Tane Mahuta and 3rd graders began learning Eko Te Tui (The Tui Bird Sings). The kapa haka practices for this age group were designed to emphasize creating a community, cooperation, communication and conflict resolution. We worked on highlighting making mistakes, empathy, trustworthiness, risk taking, physical vs emotional trust. Students know this behavior as “Being Kind”, “Being Gentle” and “Being Safe” (2nd Grade) and “Play Hard”, “Play Fair” and “Play Safe” (3rd Grade).
