Primary School: Discovering and understanding the great outdoors.
Moving beyond self-centered, parallel play into a more cooperative social world where creative, spontaneous actions serve as the socializing process through which they learn the benefits of give and take.
During the early elementary years our Adventures follow the theme “Changes inside and around me”. Our Adventure cycles emphasize respecting self and others, working together, and safety. Students know this as “Be Kind”, “Be Gentle”, “Be Safe”. As an example students may investigate non-living parts of the environment like how rocks turn into soil while learning how to work in small science teams. Fire safety and using fire as a tool will be introduced while staying warm and cooking snacks, students will mimic creating friction with sticks to make their own imaginary fires. The learning goal in this stage is moving beyond self-centered, parallel play into a more social and cooperative world where they learn the benefits of give and take.
